I visited the woods at bridge 47 today and what a day, the ground was hard with frost and the sun shone brightly through the trees, a nice change from the rain we have recently had. My aims were to map the woods as i explored and take some photos as i walked - We hope to get a video recording device soon for videos of the evolving wood.
The floor was covered with what i believe to be wood anemone which will flower in spring creating a blanket of flowers.
Heading up through the tree line on an old track i discovered a lot of litter. There is a Towpath Taskforce Taster planned for the end of February to tackle some of these issues.
Further up there is a coppice of Hazel that leads down to an open plot where the woodland has been cleared to install electric cables.
along side the anemone there are a selection of Mosses, King Alfred cakes and abundant Bracken and Bramble. i couldn't go any further as it was not negotiable. But all in all this woodland is a true sanctuary from the pressures of modern life, and is well worth a visit!
